I had the opportunity to cruise between Fremantle and Melbourne onboard Cunard's Queen Elizabeth last week. I had been looking forward to experiencing everything fabulous from the stateroom to the food as portrayed in the hype for Cunard. I was not surprised by the elegance and tasteful décor of the ship or its standard of repair and presentation. It was very much as the brochures state. The food offered was good, but not 5 star. Selections in the Britannia restaurant were favourable except on the first evening when there was nothing to suit our dietary requirements, but the buffet was sufficient. The standard of service was NOT up to expectations. Our cabin steward gave the impression that we "Australian" guests were below his station, and when asked a question once, he merely chuckled and walked away. The bedding configuration was not as requested so I asked if he could please amend to being two single beds. This was mid afternoon upon boarding. He stated he would do it on turn down. We were back from the 8:30 pm show, and he was only just commencing the bedding change. Whilst our waiter in the Britannia was courteous and attentive to us, he was quite rude to the couple beside us. On the whole, the Queen Elizabeth (ship) out rated my experiences on the likes of Golden/Emerald/Diamond Princess, however, the service provided on Princess cruises far exceed that received on the Queen Elizabeth.
